Buzz Electrics is a continually growing electrical company, that provides cost effective electrical solutions to the industrial and commercial industries, based in Hawkes Bay, but serving the whole of New Zealand
Buzz Electrics was founded in 1994 by Buzz Barham on his return home with his family.
From the beginning, the business model was built on long-term relationships, training and mentoring, and a strong focus on compliance and delivering competent electrical services.
2013 – A New Era of Ownership
In 2013, an exciting change brought Gerrie Wolmarans and Daniel White into the ownership of Buzz Electrics.
- Gerrie brought expertise in industrial automation, adding a whole new dimension of services.
- Daniel brought a fresh impetus to cement existing client relationships and foster new connections with national business partners.
2018 – Strengthening Through Partnership
In 2018, another energising change took place as Aotea Group Holdings Ltd and Carl Williams joined the ownership of Buzz Electrics.
At this time, the shareholding was divided among five parties. Buzz Electrics also acquired the brand Napier Heat Pumps Ltd, broadening the company’s service offering.
2022 – Becoming Part of a National Unity
By 2022, Buzz Electrics became part of the amalgamation of 32 Aotea-linked companies across New Zealand.
These businesses now operate autonomously at the local level while benefiting from the resources and capacity of the broader Aotea Group.
Today, Aotea employs over 1,600 staff across 32 locations nationwide, providing electrical, security, communications, air conditioning, fire alarms, and associated services. This alliance has enabled Buzz Electrics to scale significantly in terms of resources, operating ability, and national reach—while retaining strong local roots.
2023 – Expanding Shareholding
In 2023, Ryan Autridge, Lou Campbell, and Maria Hooper joined as shareholders, strengthening the ownership base and bringing further expertise and energy into the business.
2024 – Welcoming New Partners
In 2024, Brendon Urquhart and Nathan Armstrong became shareholders, further broadening the leadership group and ensuring that Buzz Electrics continues to grow on a strong foundation of shared knowledge and commitment.
2025 – A New Phase of Leadership & Growth
In May 2025, Daniel White took over as Managing Director of Buzz Electrics, leading the business into its next phase of growth.
That same year, Ian Jarvis and Petara Dornan joined as shareholders, adding further depth to the company’s ownership structure and reinforcing its leadership capacity for the future.

- His vision is to strengthen local relationships while leveraging the national power of the Aotea Group, ensuring Buzz Electrics remains a trusted partner in both local and national projects.
